Yes there is a story behind our existence (thanks for asking). This is a rather unusual story but true nonetheless*. The founder (Jeremy Campbell) was mysteriously abducted by aliens one night while on a camping trip in a remote North American location (we can't give the exact location details because of government interference and involvement). The aliens tortured him for hours on their ship, and demanded to know why there was no online video site which featured only cool videos for the web audience to enjoy. Jeremy maintained that he had no knowledge of why this was the case, but the aliens kept pumping him for more information thinking that he had the answers they demanded.

Finally a weakened Jeremy promised that if set free that he would dedicate his life towards creating a site that would make the aliens proud. He explained that he would first develop a cool and original design for the site, only feature the coolest videos possible (and leave all the boring videos for the other video sites to deliver), promote collaboration between creators and editors (which would stimulate the creation of fresh and original content), and finally he promised to engage deeply with the site's viewers, creators, and editors to establish a strong and passionate community.

The aliens were fascinated with his ideas for this type of cool web platform, but not quite as trusting, so they implanted a chip into his brain allowing them to manage him until the site was up to their standards for public release. You are reading this now because the site met their approval, and was cleared by them for everyone to enjoy. While this may not have been easiest and quickest site to develop, it may very well be the only alien influenced site on the web today.

While we don't normally encourage this type of behaviour, we are proud to say that without the help from a higher power this site may not exist today. There is no need to think anymore that aliens want to invade our planet and take it over for themselves, and this is direct proof of that. We believe that collaboration with aliens could be the next big step forward for many companies looking to differentiate themselves from their competitors.

The big idea behind this story: Remember not to be closed minded on outside ideas, because they are perhaps the ones that will hold the most value to the goals we are trying to accomplish.

*Please note that this story is not actually true. Well actually everything is true except the alien part.

We are different from other video sharing sites because:

Like you, we were conceived on love, and 9 months later born for the world to enjoy. Ideas for the site were thrown around in June 2007, with the official public beta release in February 2008, which coincidentally really is 9 months later.

Can I access my contact lists from email sites like Gmail?

Yes you can, on any video page click on the share button, then click on the "Select By Accessing Your Contact Lists" link. Then choose the service you want your contact list from, enter in your login information, select the contacts you want to share with, click done, hit the send button, and just like that you have automatically shared a cool video with all your friends.

What a much easier and quicker way to share, then manually entering email addresses.

Go to the bottom of the site and click on "Video RSS". You can subscribe this way, or through any of the blog readers you may use.

How do I unleash myself?

First visit uv.spreadshirt.com. Then find your t-shirt with your name on it (if you aren't listed email us and we will create one just for you), choose your size, buy it (and maybe get a few for your friends as gifts), and it will be mailed right to your door.

Once you receive it slap it on and take cool, funny, or sexy pictures of yourself wearing it. Then upload the coolest pic to your UV account and and we will feature you on our site for the world to see!

Add all your social networks that you belong to, your blog, your site, and you have an instant social web business card.

Your Profile

How do I cancel my account?

It would break our hearts to see you leave our fun and entertaining social media site, but if you insist then send us with an email stating your email address and reason for cancellation, and we will (painfully) take it from there.

Why ask for my name, birthday, and other personal info?

For the security of our site we must ensure that all video creators, viewers, and editors are legit people. We ask for your birthday so that we can send you an e-card to remind you of how special you are to the world and our site :)

You can also trust us with your information as we never disclose anything to third parties (they wish).

What are the benefits to getting an UnleashVideo account?

There are all kinds of great benefits to becoming a UV member (for free of course) below are only a few:

How do I edit my profile?

Log into your account and click on the edit profile link in the main panel area. Then Update, change, and add new information you want. Click on save to successfully update your profile.

How do I change my password?

Log into your account and click on the change password link in the main panel area. Then enter your current password, new password, and confirm that new password by entering it again. Click on change to successfully change your profile password.

How do I invite my friends and family to the site?

Log into your account and click on the invite users link in the main panel area. Then either manually enter your friend's email addresses, or click "Select by Accessing My Contact Lists" to choose your friends from sites like Gmail. Enter a message if you wish, and then click on the invite button to send out invitations to your friends and family.

How do I enter the contest for a chance to win an iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPod Nano?

Log into your account and click on the My Contest link in the main panel area. Here you can see who you've invited and your popularity score. You get 1 point for every person you get to sign up for an account through your invites. To learn how to invite your friends see the above question.

Why should I enter my MySpace or Facebook profile URL's in my profile?

Doing this allows people who find you interesting to find and connect with you outside of our site.

This ability is only currently available to people who are unleashed, so you must unleash yourself before you can showcase your profile links.

How long will my videos exist on UnleashVideo for?

Providing your videos stay cool and relevant to our viewers, and advertisers, your videos may be a staple on UnleashVideo for years to come.

You always reserve the right to remove your videos at any point in time if you wish, but views and cash comes to those who don't.

Is adult content permitted on UnleashVideo?

Absolutely NOT! But with videos having people in bikinis and other lack of clothing are generally given the OK.

Does UnleashVideo accept content in languages other than English?

We do, but only content with the correct English subtitles in the bottom of the video. We are very strict when reviewing this type of content because the majority of our audience is based in North America and most fluent in English.

How do you verify the rightful ownership of a video?

Our reviewers have a keen eye for what appears to be original and coming from a source which in fact has the ownership rights for.

By keeping a healthy line of communication open with our creators, we can assure with a high percentage of accuracy that legalities are met. By working together to achieve this ownership goal it makes the UnleashVideo platform better and safer for everyone.

If you happen to come across a video which you feel is being used without the proper rights in place, please contact us with your reasoning and attach the video's URL.

How come my video got rejected/removed?

All videos must hold entertainment value in eyes of viewers, and hold marketing value in the eyes of advertisers.

With that being said, only videos that meet our screening approval specifications are posted to the site. Another reason why a rejection may occur is for the reason of copyright violation (mainly for using music without having the rights to do so).

What is fraudulent tagging?

This type of tagging occurs when a content creator uses popular terms, phrases, or individual words which have no relevance to their video.

As a result the viewer has a difficult experience finding what he/she wants in content, which makes searching less effective.

Strict reviewing goes into this area of concern to limit potential problems from even occuring in the beginning.

If something slips by us please contact us and let us know the video URL, so we can look into the matter.

What is family filter on/off?

If you wish to limit yourself to only watch clean PG material turn the filter on. However, with the filter off you can view our entire content library which includes everything including up to 18+ rated material. Sorry, again no pornography here!

Why do I have to enter a description?

A description is a very important piece of metadata about a video that makes it unique and attracts viewers to want to click play.

Tags are also very critical to the successes of your content, so we will ensure you are covered properly to maximize views and rating.

Where is my video after I unleash it?

Once you unleash your video with all the required metadata (title, description, tags, etc.), we then begin the review process, and quickly let you know if your video is cool enough. We usually make a decision within a few short hours.

If we need additional information to complete our review process, you will receive an email outlining in detail what exactly is needed. If it's copyright related, we will require you to provide supporting materials that proves without a doubt that you in fact have ownership rights.

How many videos can I unleash?

Providing you're the content creator/owner you can unleash as many as you want. However we do suggest that you start by unleashing one at a time starting with your coolest.

If it's approved then we will encourage you to unleash more so you can build your own cool channel.

What types of videos can I unleash?

You must be the original creator/owner of the content you are unleashing or have permissions to do so. Submit content which matches one of our category headings.

A maximum video size has been set @ 20MB (please compress), with a minimum of 30 seconds and a maximum of 5 minutes in length. All content must comply with our Terms & Conditions, Privacy Policy, Rules of Submission and Copyright documents. Pornography is strictly prohibited.

We accept the following content formats: wmv, mpg, and avi.

How do I unleash my video(s)?

We make this process so easy a monkey could do it. Simply click the "Unleash Now" button in the top right hand corner of the site, and follow the instructions from there. Please contact us if you need further help.

How do I build my channel?

Click on the channel link in your account and name your channel, describe your channel, and apply the other settings which best relate to your channel.

To choose the videos you want in your channel click on Organize Videos in your account. Select the videos you want and click add. To choose the channel photo you want, click on Add as Channel Photo.

Music

I�m a music producer can I unleash my tunes?

We currently don�t allow anyone to unleash their tunes to us. However we understand that entertainment value in videos can be increased by effectively matching videos to tunes.

We are investigating opportunities for this primary reason, so we can allow music producers to profit with us as well.

What tunes can I use in my video?

As long as you have the rights to the tunes used in your video (or you can work out a compensation plan with the appropriate parties) go for it.

We will need to verify all tunes used are being properly used in accordance with copyright infringement laws.

Making Cash

How do I make cash?

You start making cash when your video views exceed 20,000, and your account has a balance of at least $30. Video ratings are important, but don't affect the cash you earn.

You receive $2/1,000 views, starting after 20,000 views. Go get em' tiger!

Is there a limit on how much cash I can make?

You get paid (after proper click verification) when we get paid; we always want to get paid so as long as we do you will as well :)

So no there is no limit on how much you can make.

How and when do I get paid?

We have in place an account minimum of $30 before a content creator gets financially compensated.

Every account with a balance equal to or in excess of $30 will be paid on the 1st of every month. Provided proper verifications are met and no suspicious clicking activity occurred you will be compensated appropriately.

You must provide us with your PayPal email (in your account) so that we can pay you cash.

Check into your account to see what you�ve earned, been paid, and yet too be paid. If you have any further questions or need additional information on this please contact us.

What are fraudulent clicks?

These occur when someone with the same IP address keeps clicking the same video over and over to boost the total number of views.

Any account which flirts with this fraudulent act may be suspended and/or face legal ramifications for doing so.

Our advertisers must be able to trust the sources from which clicks and impressions are being made. Protective technology measures have been put in place, to alarm us when potential suspicious activity is occurring.

We understand that only a small percentage of this actually occurs, but we need to ensure that if it does we are taking the right course of action.

How are views calculated?

We calculate this value by counting the number of times the play button was clicked on for each video via embeds, and automatically count views on our site when someone clicks on a video thumbnail.

Statistics are regularly updated so you can be guaranteed to always know on demand, the total on each and every one of your videos.

Can I share my video creations with my friends?

Of course you can, be proud of what you have created and show the world you have what it takes to broadcast cool videos.

But beware they may fight for high ratings from viewers and create their own videos as well.

Advertising can be done for releasing a new product, adopting a new ad strategy for an existing product, communicating special deals, or any other campaign goals you may have.

Is it easy to advertise?

Advertising can be setup easily and quickly after reviewing your ad campaign specifications. You will be notified if your campaign is accepted or rejected within 5 business days from submission. If accepted, it should be up and running within minutes thereafter. If rejected, there will be outlining reasons why it was rejected. If certain changes are needed and resolved, the campaign may once again be resubmitted for approval status.

What are the costs involved?

You can be up and running with only $100 so we cater to both small and large ad accounts.

Are proper copyright laws obeyed by UnleashVideo?

Our company was built on cleaning up the internet and reducing piracy, so we work hard to prevent all content without the proper copyrights in place from the site.

All intellectual ownership properties are yours, you may remove a video at any point you wish. While it remains on the site we will help to market and maximize your video�s success potential.

Will my videos be altered in any way?

We may recommend changing certain information on the video such as title, description, and tags, but only to help your odds at generating more views and cash. We will never alter this information and unleash your video without a genuine consent of approval.

I see a video that�s mine but I personally didn't upload it?

In this case you may be a victim of piracy, please contact us and we will internally look into the case. Provide us with your name and the URL of the video. Or use our report link on the video.
